Strictly speaking, nacré [French: mother-of-pearl] is not a gemstone, but forms the innermost layer of the shell of pearl oysters. In general, nacre has a creamy white color, but shimmers with rich colors in the light. This optical peculiarity results from the spatial arrangement of the individual mother-of-pearl platelets, which reflect light rays differently. Because of this peculiarity, each piece of jewelry is individual.
